Split a holiday rental between couples and singles
A rental house with two couples and one single guest is easiest to split by head. List every guest as a person, couples included: each partner carries one share, and each guest gets a link that shows only their own part.
A worked example
Carla and Dev, Eli and Fay, and Gus rent a house for a week.
- Carla paid 750.00 for the rental, shared by all five: 150.00 each.
- Dev paid 90.00 for a boat day that only the two couples took: 22.50 each for Carla, Dev, Eli and Fay.
- Gus paid 43.00 for groceries, shared by all five: 8.60 each.
Gus skipped the boat and pays nothing towards it. Each couple pays two shares, one per partner.
| Person | Paid | Share | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carla | 750.00 | 181.10 | is owed 568.90 |
| Dev | 90.00 | 181.10 | owes 91.10 |
| Eli | 0.00 | 181.10 | owes 181.10 |
| Fay | 0.00 | 181.10 | owes 181.10 |
| Gus | 43.00 | 158.60 | owes 115.60 |
The shares add up to 883.00, the group total. Four payments settle everything, all to Carla: Eli pays 181.10, Fay pays 181.10, Gus pays 115.60 and Dev pays 91.10.
One link per guest
Couples can settle between themselves, but the tool does not need to know that. Carla can send Eli, Fay, Gus and Dev a link each. A guest's page shows only that guest's payments, share and the group total, not anyone else's rows.
Try it
Enter your own guests in the Per-Person Owe Links tool: add each expense with who paid and who took part, then copy a link for each guest. For groups of up to 10 people it finds the fewest possible payments.
Privacy and limits
- Your data lives only in the link. Nothing is stored on a server, and anyone with a link can see its contents.
- This tool does not process payments, does not hold money and gives no financial advice. It only does the arithmetic; people pay each other however they choose.
- It is offered as-is, with no warranty. Check the numbers before anyone pays.
