Per-Person Owe Links English · Español

How to send each person a link with what they owe

After a trip, one person ends up with the receipts and the job of telling everyone what to pay. A separate, read-only link per person answers the one question each of them has: what do I pay, and to whom?

A worked example

Ana, Ben and Cleo spend a weekend away. All three share every expense.

  • Ana paid 90.00 for the cabin: 30.00 each.
  • Ben paid 45.50 for groceries: 15.17 for Ana, 15.17 for Ben and 15.16 for Cleo.
  • Cleo paid 10.00 for the taxi: 3.34 for Ana, 3.33 for Ben and 3.33 for Cleo.

An amount that does not divide evenly is split to the cent, and the leftover cents go to the first people on the list. That is why 10.00 between three is 3.34 + 3.33 + 3.33, and nothing is lost.

Cleo10.0048.49owes 38.49

Two payments settle the group: Cleo pays Ana 38.49 and Ben pays Ana 3.00.

What each link shows

  • Ben's link: pay 3.00 to Ana.
  • Cleo's link: pay 38.49 to Ana.
  • Ana's link: Cleo pays you 38.49 and Ben pays you 3.00.

Each link also shows what that person paid, their share and the group total, 145.50, and nothing about the other people's positions. The pages are read-only: whoever opens one cannot change the numbers.

How to do it

  1. Open the Per-Person Owe Links tool. There is no signup and nothing to install.
  2. Add the people, then each expense with who paid it.
  3. Press the button that works out who owes who.
  4. Copy each person's link and send it in the chat or email you already use.

Privacy and limits

  • Your data lives only in the link. Nothing is stored on a server, and anyone with a link can see its contents.
  • This tool does not process payments, does not hold money and gives no financial advice. It only does the arithmetic; people pay each other however they choose.
  • It is offered as-is, with no warranty. Check the numbers before anyone pays.
